JOE SATRIANI Is 'Feeling Very Positive' About CHICKENFOOT Doing Something In 2018

September 25, 2017

Joe Satriani says that he is "feeling very positive" about CHICKENFOOT's chances of making new music in 2018.

The supergroup, which features the legendary guitarist alongside former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar, ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, has been largely inactive since 2012 when it toured with Kenny Aronoff on drums due to Smith's busy schedule with his main band.

This past March, CHICKENFOOT released "Divine Termination", its first new tune in five years, on "Best + Live", the band's first-ever best-of collection.

CHICKENFOOT's most recent album of all-new material was "Chickenfoot III", the band's second LP, issued in 2011.

During a September 20 interview with radio personality Eddie Trunk, Satriani was asked if there are any plans for CHICKENFOOT to do anything else again. Joe responded: "A couple of weeks ago, when we [Satriani's solo band] were heading down to South America for a one-off [show], I got a call just as I was getting in the car to go to the airport and it's Sam saying, 'I just wanna let you know, 2018, I'm dedicating it all to CHICKENFOOT.' It totally blew my mind, and I had no idea what to do with that piece of information. Because I said, 'You know, Sam, I'm doing a [solo] record and a tour, and a 'G3' tour.' And I was thinking, 'I have a feeling Chad's gonna go on a long vacation, 'cause he's just getting off a two-and-half-year tour [with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS] or something.' So I don't know what's going to happen. But I'm sure we'll be getting together at some point next year. I told him, 'Look, you know I'm working,' because we rehearsed for the tour at his studio, so he knows all about my schedule. But I said, 'You know, if I have a day off, I'm there working in the studio with you.' So I'm feeling very positive about that."

In May 2016, CHICKENFOOT reunited for two one-time shows at Harrah's Lake Tahoe, and played its first complete set in more than six years, along with a special unveiling of "Divine Termination". Satriani described the track as "bone-crunching, hell-raising rock, dripping with attitude and vibe. Just the way CHICKENFOOT likes it!"

In addition to "Divine Termination", "Best + Live" includes over ninety minutes of live music "Best + Live" for the first time released on CD.

Satriani will release his sixteenth solo album, "What Happens Next", on January 12, 2018 via Sony/Legacy Recordings.

Just a day prior to the album release, Satriani will revive his G3 tour entity, inviting DREAM THEATER's John Petrucci and DEF LEPPARD lead guitarist Phil Collen to join him. The G3 tour will launch on January 11 in Seattle, Washington and continue across the U.S. before winding up on February 25 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
